Amazing headphones for monitoring sound and music production!
I was looking to update my studio monitor headphones, after having them for nearly 10 years. I began by looking on sound/music forums for "Best headphones to monitor hip-hop". Throughout several forums, The Audio Technica ATH-M50x came up time and time again.
I can honestly say the prevailing wisdom was right! These are great headphones. The construction is tight and really creates an immersive sound (these are closed back, so no room noise creeps in). The low end is just right on these headphones, (not too extreme, but gives enough for you to know what's happening with the bass and kicks). The mids are solid and the highs are good as well. These headphones are comfortable, the padded top is very nice. They don't squeeze my head, so that's good. While I wouldn't consider them lightweight, I also wouldn't call them heavy, either. If you make beats, or compose music these will be excellent (especially if you do hip-hop, soul, house, etc.) If you are mixing or mastering music, then I would choose another headphone that is more sonically flat.

Great for home recording!
I needed great sound with more isolation from external noise than my Sony MDR-7506 phones, and the ATH-M50X does just that! Excellent headphones!!!

The Nissan GTR of headphones, Insane value!
This is the Nissan GTR of headphones. It kicks big expensive headphones to the curb. Great build quality, feels solid, comfortable, and most importantly THEY SOUND AMAZING. Balanced highs, mids, and bass is deep and strong but not overwhelming. Other than the cord being quite long, I couldn't say anything negative. I would put this headset VS many 300$ pairs out there and this one comes out on top almost every time. BUY THEM WHILE YOU CAN =D
