Intorno a primi anni dell’Ottocento l’edificio fu addirittura ipotecato e poi venduto al Conte Luigi Gulinelli che nel 1818 ne avviò i lavori di restauro.\r\nA partire dal 1860 la famiglia Gulinelli la fece dotare di meravigliose scuderie per l’allevamento di cavalli da corsa, erette di fronte alla delizia, e modificò anche l'aspetto originale dell'impianto dell'antica dimora, sopraelevandone le ali, in modo che la torre risultò più tozza, e conferendo alla costruzione una struttura a pianta quadrata.\r\nL’edificio rimase tale fino alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale, quando i bombardamenti che colpirono tutta l'area argentana nel 1944 ne stravolsero di nuovo il profilo.\r\nLe terre circostanti erano coltivate a vigne e cereali, non mancava la selvaggina che i nobili signori amavano tanto cacciare.\r\nOggi Benvignante ha una pianta rettangolare, come doveva essere in origine nel progetto di Benvenuto degli Ordini, a due piani con grandi finestre distribuite simmetricamente sulla facciata; sopra all'arcata a tutto sesto in cotto al centro della torre è possibile vedere lo stemma della casata Gulinelli.\r\nPer la sua posizione questa residenza, con il poderoso torrione merlato centrale che permette di dominare i terreni circostanti, doveva essere stata pensata non solo come luogo di riposo e svago ma anche con funzioni di controllo, - più che difensive, - del territorio argentano.\r\nGli abitanti del territorio la chiamano affettuosamente \"Al Turòn\"\r\nIl complesso non è al momento visitabile ma è circondato da quattro ettari di terreno adibiti a parco che dopo gli eventi bellici, e soprattutto grazie ad un importante recente intervento, è stato ripristinato di modo che gli elementi dominanti sono oggi la geometria dei viali, sottolineata dai filari di alberi, il prato e l’acqua.\r\nUn vialetto al centro di una doppia fila di giovani ciliegi parte dal cortile interno e attraversa un pontile di legno su uno stagno ovale per poi unirsi al viale che abbraccia l'intero giardino, accompagnato da un filare di tigli.\r\nNel prato, dominante nell'intero complesso del parco, spiccano quattro pioppi cipressini che segnano l'inizio e la fine del vialetto centrale, e vi sono esemplari di ontano, salice e cipresso di palude.\r\nLa presenza dello stagno vuole rievocare le acque che nel passato dominavano il territorio e che, soprattutto in epoca rinascimentale, permettevano di raggiungere la delizia attraverso le vie d'acqua; intorno vi erano poche case e il fitto bosco che procurava ricchi bottini di selvaggina.\r\nLo stesso nome \"ben veniante\" alludeva al benvenuto del viandante in questa terra.\r\nDal 1990 la proprietà della Delizia è stata rilevata dal Comune di Argenta e oggi rientra nel patrimonio di valorizzazione dell'Ecomuseo di Argenta ed è curata dall’associazione \"Torrione Delizia” di Benvignante.\r\nLe prospicienti scuderie e l'essiccatoio del tabacco sono invece di proprietà privata.\r\nNell'anno 2000 le Delizie ferraresi, tra cui anche Benvignante, sono state dichiarate dall'Unesco patrimonio dell'Umanità.\r\nAttualmente il Comune di Argenta, con la partecipazione della comunità e dell'Associazionismo locale già coinvolti nelle Mappe di Comunità, sta definendo un progetto di consolidamento della struttura storica al fine di renderla accessibile anche internamente col proposito di rivitalizzare l'antico borgo rurale e valorizzarla nell’ambito del circuito delle Delizie Estensi. La delizia doveva essere una sontuosa dimora da regalare al fedele segretario del Duca, Teofilo Calcagnini e fu progettata dall'architetto Pietro Benvenuto degli Ordini. Nasce come luogo di villeggiatura, dove trascorrere piacevoli giornate di riposo e da qui, molto probabilmente, deriva quel nome Benvegnate, che suona come un benvenuto o un augurio, poi divenuto Benvegnante sino all’attuale Benvignante; altri pareri fanno derivare il nome dalle vigne che si coltivavano nella zona. Le terre circostanti erano coltivate a vigne e cereali, non mancava la selvaggina che i nobili signori amavano tanto cacciare.  L’edificio, come lo vediamo oggi, si presenta diverso da come doveva essere in origine.
