AERATION
Frequently Asked Questions

What is core aeration?

Core aeration is the process of making finger sized holes in your lawn and depositing the removed soil on the surface to break down. This allows oxygen, water and nutrients to reach the roots where healthy turf grass originates.

Can core aeration damage irrigation heads and invisible pet fences.

Yes. The machines can easily damage these items. That is why we ask each customer before any core aeration begins. If you do have an irrigation system or invisible pet fence, our landscape technicians can still perform the service after these items have been properly marked.

Is seeding after aeration the best practice?

Yes. Core aeration offers new grass seed a great environment in which to germinate and grow.

Do I need to dethatch in addition to core aeration?

Only in cases of extreme thatch is this necessary. Thatch is a layer of dead organic matter lying against the soil at the base of the turf grass.
