Indias stands second in Manufacturing Competence
India has been ranked second, after China in terms of manufacturing competence globally, in the 2010 Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index. South Korea has been ranked third in the index.
The Index is a result of the collaboration between Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and the US Council on Competitiveness.
The report notes that China's ascent to the top of the list is not surprising, given its rising eminence in the manufacturing sector over the past ten years.
However, India coming at the second position is more surprising to observers given the fact that India was always considered a service sector power house but a laggard in manufacturing sector given the infrastructure bottle neck.
The report says that India's rich talent pool of scientists, researchers, and engineers as well as its large, well-educated English-speaking workforce and democratic regime make it an attractive destination for manufacturers.
