OUR CORE VALUES
INTEGRITY
Maintain High Ethics, Be Respectful and Honest
Customers know that we can be trusted to stand behind our products, take ownership and fix mistakes. When you get down to it, that’s a big part of keeping satisfied customers coming back. The Hoover family sets high ethical standards for itself and expects the same from all coworkers.
Everyone from production to the CEO is expected to follow through on promises. Integrity means being respectful and honest with each other and our customers. Opinions and ideas of both coworkers and customers are respected equally and a handshake is binding. Hoover & Strong depended on integrity and honesty from the very beginning in 1912 as a refiner. The commitment
to give honest and fair returns allowed us to grow and become an industry leader in refining gold, platinum, silver and palladium.
Even though we are more than a refinery as we have expanded to over 30,000 products and services, integrity continues to be
the heart of our company.
HELPFULNESS
Caring, Friendly and Willingness to Share Knowledge and Expertise
As a company, Hoover & Strong has embraced the definition of true southern hospitality. Many of our customers are second and third generations. Although we deal with thousands of customers, we have not lost the personal touch. We use customer names only; no annoying account numbers to remember. We willingly share our expertise and work to solve problems customers encounter. In-house jewelry experts can recommend proper casting, soldering, and other metalsmith techniques. Our metallurgist can scientifically test metal quality and suggest best options. Our experts attend workshops and symposiums and give presentations regularly on different jewelry applications at the Santa Fe Symposium.
Helpfulness and sharing is deep seated in our company. We have specific jobs, but during high volume there is a lot of crossover in responsibilities to fulfill an order. This sharing of knowledge results in the best account reps in the business, quick and accurate processing and high quality product. A willingness to share skills and talents gives us the tools to get jobs done. An awareness of each other’s skills also generates appreciation and goodwill that translates to quality customer service.
INNOVATION
Be Adaptable and Seek New and Creative Solutions
Hoover & Strong started in 1912 as an innovative company by refining platinum from light bulbs — platinum group metals are the most difficult of all the precious metals to refine. Next, shaped wire was invented to save jewelers time and labor. The factory is clean and organized with safety in mind.
The first Hoover & Strong sign from 1912 from having to form the material themselves. Our predecessors set the tone for us; now we continuously search for ways to make jewelers lives easier, we look to solve problems and better ways to serve our customers.
Hoover & Strong offers many innovative products such as TruSeat® Settings and Bands that save jewelers 80% labor. These are products with pre-cut seats in settings and channeled anniversary bands that allow jewelers to set stones easily.
The largest offering of 950 palladium bridal rings is manufactured by Hoover & Strong under the brand, TruPd™. Palladium is a platinum group metal that is pure, white, rare and strong. It is far superior to 14k white gold because it is nickel free, needs no rhodium plating and resists prong failure; yet it is close in price to 14k. But that’s not all; we are responsive and adaptable to customers’ requests for new products or services, from our new custom casting services to stone setting. We all love to make jewelry and in our small way become part of the customer’s history, whether it’s an engagement ring or material for a one of a kind piece of jewelry that will be enjoyed for generations.
RESPONSIBILITY
Accept Responsibility for Work, Community and Environment
Responsibility goes far beyond doing a job. At Hoover & Strong we feel personally responsible for every customer, every coworker, the community and our precious earth. We don’t have one specific person or department that is responsible for quality control. We all are expected to maintain a proper standard and help each other by regular inspection of product we make.
As a refiner and a manufacturer, Hoover & Strong creates 100% of its jewelry products from the world’s existing precious metal supply paired with responsibly sourced diamonds and gemstones. This means no environmental destruction, no contaminated fresh water and no displaced communities by using its branded HARMONY Metals and Gems™.
We also strive to be an efficient and lean manufacturer. Recycling throughout the facility is encouraged from paper to plastic bottles. In refining, our environmental commitment of less chemicals, zero discharge in wastewater and gas emissions have been in place for years. The purchase of efficient equipment and recycled paper from like-minded vendors are always encouraged.
Hoover & Strong has always been a big supporter of the Arts, from jewelry schools to museums and theatre. We even manufacture "Hoover Jewelry for Charity" where we select a charity, design and manufacture a piece of jewelry based on the charity mission and sell it for that charity. It is our way to give back to the community and do what we do best – make jewelry.
QUALITY
Strive for High Quality in All That We Do
Our company excels at mentoring and encouraging all coworkers to become jewelry experts from the key leaders in the company to the factory floor. Account reps are put through vigorous training to learn the more than 30,000 products, technical specs and jewelry techniques. We have precious metal experts to direct our Mill, Findings, Castings and Refining divisions who oversee and guide the production of quality products. At one time or another, we have the opportunity to interact with customers and our goal is to give exceptional quality service. Positive and proactive people are always being sought. Self improvement is encouraged with education benefits and in-house classes related to our jobs.
FAMILY
Share Good Fortune. Be Involved and Encourage Personal Growth
Hoover & Strong is a family owned business and has been around for four generations. Likewise, it has many life-long multi-generational customers. Many of us have family members also working in the company. As with any family, we support our friends and family through hard times and share joy during good times. We have great benefits, work-life flexibility and enjoy strong relationships and discounts with local businesses.
