Results from the Women's Health Initiative in 2002, showing that the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, led to a rapid drop in HRT use. New statistics show the number of prescriptions for HRT have fallen significantly. The number of HRT patients in Britain has halved since 2001, when studies claimed that the treatment exposed women to higher risks of heart disease, strokes and some cancers. |
