Thinking about getting a Supra. Size qustions and other stuff.

I am 6'8 and would like to get a supra mkIII, I sat in one today but I forgot how I fit.
Do any other tall people drive supras? How does it work for you?
Also, aside from the head gasket thing, are there any major things that I should look for when shopping for a supra? EX: rust under rear wheel arches...

Oh, and I am no stranger to a tight fit. I currently drive an 89 sr-5 corolla.

Any input or advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

No, they can be strangely roomy. You will want the one with the fully adjustable steering wheel, the telescoping and up and down adjustments. The seats tend to go fairly far back, but I have a early 89 that did not come with the electronic seat controls. The electronic ones do not go back as far.My buddy has one, and he is 6'6" and he fits fairly comfortable. Headgasket can be an issue, check overflow canister for brown coolant and exhaust smell, test drive and watch temp gauge at highway speeds. Make sure to let it warm up good to full operating temp and then drive it around to see any potential issues. As long as the body is straight, look for bad bushings and what not under the car, rust should not really be an issue depending on your area. Toyota tends to spray a thick undercoating on the unit body so you should be ok there.

Sounds pretty straight forward. The one I sat in had the adjustable steering wheel but the seats were electronic. Do you know why the electronic seats don't go as far back by any chance, maybe the rails are shorter or something? Yeah, I will definitely look at the bushings and all that.

I was looking on craigslist and saw some cheap mkIII's because they had blown headgaskets, at least that is what the people said was the only thing wrong. But if thatholds true I will be able to pick one up for maybe 500 bucks.

Thanks.

Yes, I believe it is just he rails. They probably wanted to limit the range of the motor, so they shortend it up my an inch or two. The engines are very tough. The internals and what not are not so much an issue, unless they were subject to very abnormal abuse. From the top deck down, and the bottom of the head up, you don't have to worry. Its just the head gasket. If you are willing to spend some time and do the head gasket right, you will have to disassemble it and have the block and the head shaved if they are out of straightness. If you intend on going with stock boost, just put a stock gasket on after the machining if it is minor enough and tourque down the bolts to 72 ft/lbs and have fun. But if you intend to go up in boost, use a metal head gasket of he appropraite thickness and tourque with ARP head studs. I could have done my entire head gasket job for about 800 dollars with a metal head gasket and arp head studs and all stock internals. I decided to just do everything right away so I didn't pull it apart again for a long time. It is up to you in this area. You will have to have everything checked, like the crank and the head. Most shops will not charge you to check them out if you are giving them business already. Yes, the head gasket is pretty much the only issue you should really concern about.
